When It Rains On Your Wedding Day

when it rains on your wedding day The Unwelcome Guest: When It Rains On Your Wedding Day

When it rains on your wedding day: the topic so many avoid so much so they refuse to even say “the r word.” Everyone, especially couples planning a Florida wedding, hopes for sunshine filled strolls and cheerful sky settings on their big day. But almost as much as Florida delivers sunshine, boy oh boy does it deliver rain. But believe it or not, this may not be the worst thing. In fact, rain on your wedding day may end up adding an extra layer of goodness you couldn’t possibly prepare, plan for or dream of. Looking for some encouragement? Dive in below as we chat about it; with snapshots from recent couple Kathryn and Nathaniel, and how their rainy wedding day was soaked with goodness start to finish!

Well, That Wasn’t In The Plan…

We spent almost a year planning alongside Kate and Nathaniel. Collectively, we hoped for and dreamed of sunshine on their dreamy day. Like every other Florida wedding day, the planning stages held discussions of a back-up plan in the event of wet weather. And phew…thank goodness we did, because goodness did it rain. It rained during their vows, and then it kept opening up back at their reception. But even so…they shined.

You know how the phrase “dancing in the rain” is so romanticized? How it’s the ultimate vision of unbridled, free and full joy? That’s because it is! Finding joy even during the rain is deeply symbolic–especially in a marriage. Spending your whole life with someone guarantees that you will face “rain” in life with them. And likewise, the sun will eventually come out and warm your skin after each storm just the same. Couples facing rain on their wedding day and still smiling (and dancing!) their way through it is the most beautiful and meaningful image.

From A Wedding Vendor’s Perspective

While smiling through a rainy wedding day is emotionally gorgeous, as wedding professionals, we adore it, too. It makes for contagiously joyful photos, and often, the most stunning of skies! Our advice to you:

Let the clouds opening up on your wedding day open you up, too.

Sure, no one wants rain on their wedding day. We know this. We understand this completely. But never will you ever look back on your wedding day and think, “Gosh, I wish we would’ve let the rain steal our joy even more on our big day.” Rather, you most certainly will say, “I am so glad we danced in that crazy rain storm and had the best time, together. <3” Let the clouds opening up on your wedding day open you up, too.

Planning, Photography, and Videography, by yours truly.
