What to expect
when expecting or planning for your wedding film
Wedding Videography Preparation: Wedding Videography is an amazing addition to any wedding day and captures live, re-liveable moments to treasure for a lifetime. While photo + video pair so well together, they are essentially two very different products and must be uniquely prepared for. Here are the most helpful tips, tricks and things to think about before adding on or diving into your wedding day with regarding to your cinematography:
Preparation:
Adding on wedding videography:
It’s very important to let both your photographer and videographer know that you have both services (if they are not within the same company). Hopefully with the fact you are reading this, Love Letters Co is capturing both but in the odd instance that this is not the case, please make sure everyone knows for the timeline purposes.
What is a Highlight Film?
Our highlight films are the main product of your wedding video collection. As the name describes, this is anywhere from 1 – 6+ minute films (depending on the collection you’ve chosen) that combines small moments from your entire day into one film. To further explain, if you have a choreographed first dance, there maybe 15-20′ seconds of that dance in the highlight film. We do offer extended raw coverage if this something that you might be interested in. Extended Raw coverage would be placed after the RAW ceremony and includes full coverage of the first dance(s), speeches, toasts or any other planned special moments. You can find this extended Raw coverage automatically included in the “Perfect Day Collection” but can be added on to any film.
Video takes a different type of timeline.
We will work together with the videographer to create a seamless timeline, but something’s just take a little bit more time. For example, wedding day details, the bride getting ready and portrait all require (P + V) to share and rotate through these moments. Most of the day is in tandem but be aware it’s always best to pad the timeline, especially in the beginning when having videography.
Things to Consider, before the big day
When watching other wedding videos, what are you most drawn too:
- Cinematic (slower more romantic with lots of slow motion)
- Narrative (where the couple’s audio is layered over the majority of the video)
- Fast-paced (fast movements, up beat music, more of a lively recap of the wedding day)
- Music (which we will cover more later) royalty free music must be used in all films unless the couple chooses to purchase a license to a particular song.
How much time have you allotted to capture photo & video:
- Adding on video does require additional time due to the nature of the art, so if you would like to create any special moments just for the wedding video, make sure to include extra time in the timeline so nothing is rushed (ie reading of special letters to one another, exchanging gifts, choreographed first dance, special toasts etc)
- You will always want to leave 20 – 30 minutes space between any pre-ceremony moments and the ceremony in order for the videographer to mic the groom/work with the DJ on backup audio setup / place additional camera and prepare for processional.
- Videographers tend to have a lot more gear to carry on a wedding especially with tripods and specialty setup so always be aware or location changes on the day.
The Music
The music choice for your wedding video is everything when it comes to telling the story your day. Some couples love truly cinematic films (lots of slow-mo), some couples want a more upbeat video to match the hi-energy of their day (normal motion mixed in with faster cuts), and some couples prefer a narrative view with their ceremony vows overlaid telling their story. This type of homework will truly help us match the storytelling of your day with our creative aspect to ensure the perfect wedding video you’ll love for years to come. As a matter of the music, while the genre you choose is an inspiration to us, we can not use any form of copyrighted music. We will use your inspiration to choose music that is most similar to your vision.
Delivery Timeline:
After your wedding day with us, you will receive an email 2 day after reiterating the delivery process from your contract. All requests for special edits must be received within 30 days or may be subject to additional fees.
