Wedding First Look VS. Wedding First Touch

Wedding First Touch

Wedding First Touch

You’ve heard of the wedding first look, but what about the wedding first touch? This deeply intimate and emotional option is a growing trend among couples who want to enjoy a quiet moment together pre-ceremony, but want to save the grand reveal for the aisle walk. While there are many pros to opting for a first look (you can read our thoughts on that here: Wedding Day First Look Pros & Cons), it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s totally ok! If you’re set on opting out of the first look, we definitely encourage you to consider the wedding first touch. Dive in below as we share all about this touching new tradition (we couldn’t resist the pun! 😉 )

The Calm Before The Rings

While the pros for a first touch are nearly identical to that of a first look, by opting for the first touch you can have all of the pros while still keeping the sneak peek of seeing one another a secret! For some, this is a must. First look or first touch, let’s dive into the pros together below:

  • You get a moment alone before the wedding. You will likely hear how quickly your wedding day goes by. This is true! Scheduling the first touch before the ceremony ensures you will have guaranteed time to simply be together and enjoy the emotions of your special day.
  • You can read your vows before the ceremony. Doing this allows you to really hear your partner’s promises  before being in front of everyone–before the nerves and extra eyes add in any distractions!
  • If you are wanting to save your vows for the altar, you can opt to write one another a heartfelt letter instead. You can read it aloud to one another, or read it quietly while you stand back to back.
  • Words not your thing? Take this time as a moment to share gifts.
  • While the excitement and emotions definitely bubble over during this time, this allows you both the opportunity to get a lot of the nerves out before the ceremony–getting to hug or soothe your partner through each emotion.
  • If so desired, this is also a perfect moment for a private prayer shared together. A time to rejoice, praise and pray together before you truly become one.

Wedding First Look Pros From your Photographer’s Standpoint

This last pro may be our favorite–though we are biased 😉 — this moment provides the most gorgeous photo and video moments for both your photographer and videographer. Time and time again we hear that these captured moments are a couple’s favorite shots!
