How To Refocus After Major Setbacks
Having to refocus after major setbacks is something most don’t foresee as they dream up their wedding businesses. But as Fort Myers business owners who have endured many storms of life–figuratively in the pandemic and literally with Hurricane Ian, we are here to share why the pre-planning is not just necessary, it’s essential.
But Kelly & Renee…I don’t even know where to start. If the rug is pulled out from under me due to unforeseen circumstances, how do I even wrap my head around the thought of moving forward? Well, because the idea of quitting altogether is simply not an option. Your dream clients deserve YOU fighting through the darknesses. And even more so: YOU deserve to gift yourself this spirit of resilience. Your dream life and dream business awaits. Let’s hop on the life raft together and float down through how to refocus after choppy waters arise. You are not alone.
Surviving the Storms of Entrepreneurship
Let’s start with revisiting your core principals. Why did you start your business to begin with? More than likely, you started to provide excellent service to a target market you care deeply about. Even with things upside down, you can step back and see that while “business as usual” may no longer be on the table for the time being, you can still provide excellent service to your clients. Maybe you are assisting a couple whose venue is closed due to a hurricane. You can lock arms with them–contacting your network of local professionals–finding a venue that is open, contacting fellow vendors booked for that couple, and helping seamlessly transport everything over to the new venue or date. By doing this, you are staying true to your core principals, and focusing on what can still work well in your business.
Think In and Out of and All Around The Box!
Start thinking critically. Think inside, outside, upside down and allll around the box! Your clients still need you. Ask yourself, how can you still service them? So many aspects of business are the same no matter what product or service you are offering. So in this vein, let’s say you are a wedding photographer. In a circumstance like the pandemic, where weddings were on hold, consider what other photoshoots are on the table. Sure, wedding photography may be your “thing”, but until that’s back on the table, what can you do right now? Dust off your family session hat and offer some beach photoshoots–where any clients not comfortable being close by photographers can still be comfortable photographed. Hop into your network and see who may be looking to hire for some updated branding photoshoots. Beaches closed down due to a recent hurricane? Move family sessions to gorgeous state parks, or scenic strolls in local downtown areas. Maybe you are a florist who specializes in weddings. Consider offering virtual bouquet making sessions to girls night gatherings, fellow business owners, etc. Pivot, pivot, pivot. The sky is not the limit, it’s just the starting point!
Cheering for you. Believing in you. Every step of the way.
