How to prepare for your maternity session
What to Expect when you’re Expecting: How to Prepare for your Maternity session
As photographers and both mom’s, we understand just how important documenting this journey into motherhood is. Being a portrait photographer, means we also understand the importance of scheduling your session at the right time. So today we’re sharing a few tips on how to prepare for your maternity session while also showing off a few photos from our shoot at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami.
Timing is Everything:
We believe that scheduling your session between 30 and 35 weeks pregnant is the best (unless you are expecting multiples, then it should be earlier). First of all, you are going to still be feeling relatively comfortable and have some energy! When you feel great–you photograph that much better! If this is your first child, you may think that there isn’t a big difference between 30 weeks and 37 weeks…but trust me girl, there is. Around 37 weeks you are pretty much ready for that baby to come, can’t breathe and maybe have cankles :)…Just me? In all seriousness, we realize the possibility of a baby coming 36 weeks and after is much greater, and we don’t want you to miss documenting your pregnancy completely!
Dressing your best:
If you have been following our blog you know that wardrobe is one of the number one questions we get asked when preparing for a portrait session. Here is some advice that dives deeper into prep from a previous post. Currently trending for maternity wear are long, flowing dresses. They look beautiful, and most of them fit tightly around the belly, which is great for showing off the baby bump! We have had many clients say that they find their maternity dresses on Amazon or they rent them from us. We love the amount of colors, styles and prints available to create a uniquely you session!
Location, Location, Location:
Just as dressing your best is important, so is choosing the right location fit for your lifestyle. We usually ask you to decide your favorite backdrop, ie. beach, downtown, or rustic and wooded and will give you recommendations based on your response. We want you to enjoy your surroundings during your session as much as we want you to enjoy having your picture taken!
The siblings:
If you have older children, it is always welcomed to bring them along to your maternity session! After all, this is a family event! We do our very best to make sure your children feel like they are apart of the process. We give them their time to shine and let them have fun while they do it!
