The beginning of a new school year
The bedrooms are picked up, his first day of school outfit has been decided and lunch is packed. Just as quickly as it started, summer is ending and we are beginning the school year with a first grader! Looking back on how quickly these last two months have passed, one word that kept coming up is…
Purpose.
Recently, we found ourselves having a very real conversation about our purpose; and I caught myself uttering that summer time was certainly a season where I had to find new purpose. When my boys are in school I have dedicated time to work on our business, but during summer break I felt all to often like I was haphazardly throwing myself around somewhere between entertaining the kiddos to sending emails, editing photos and posting to social media. I thrive on schedules and and check-lists. And although I am grateful for our relaxed summer, I found an internal struggle going on. At times I felt like I wasn’t being the best mom or the best business partner because I didn’t feel I was being effective at either.
A renowned purpose
Discussing this, it occurred to me that we are just in a different season right now.
If you find yourself in this awkward feeling place; use it as a time to grow and learn. I needed to feel a little uncomfortable about my purpose, in order to really figure out what my purpose was for this season. I needed to be more mom and rearrange my schedule to work during different hours. Self- growth happened when I figured out that I had to embrace the chaos of not having a set schedule and go with the flow of what each new day brought.
We have to realize that in each new season of our lives, we are going to have to find our purpose within that time. This shift in perspective and summer became a beautiful season of extra time spent with my children, traveling with family and not having to wake up to an alarm everyday. My purpose tilted from trying to do it all with limited time, to being present and embracing the long days together. Trust me, the days were not always perfect. However, there’s a renewed sense of peace knowing that my purpose can change as life does.
And if all else fails, take a stroll around Target- have a pillow fight and then head over to Starbucks.
With Love, Renee
