Into the Everglades
Last month we rolled out of bed at 4:30 in the morning for our drive into the Florida Everglades. We were chasing the morning sunrise and the promise of an epic engagement session. Rachel and Nick’s session certainly didn’t disappoint on the adventure scale. We found ourselves in a sweeping field of tall grass (I tried not to think about the snakes that could be lurking) and instead focused on the gorgeous sunlight peaking up over the trees. Untouched land is so magical, as was this sunrise and two people that are incredibly in love. Ya’ll we went in the swamp water at the end of our session- and it was so worth it! Read below to hear what lead us to this everglades engagement session.

“When I told Nick that we were going to do an engagement photoshoot, he agreed on one condition: that we venture into the swamps of the Everglades and attempt to capture the elusive and very rare ghost orchid in our photos. (Not entirely unexpected, since he drove me into the Everglades looking for pythons on our first date… and terrifyingly enough, we found one!)
The day of the shoot, we got up at 5am to get ready and headed out to meet Kelly and Renee at sunrise. We had an amazing time frolicking through beautifully sunlit fields at first light, and then headed for the marshes. Nick took my hand and led me right into the swamp, keeping an eye out for gators and water moccasins (you know, the usual dangers on a photoshoot). Somehow even in these situations I always feel safe with Nick, guess that’s why I’m marrying him!
I had purchased a cheap dress specifically because I knew we would be at least ankle-deep in the water (turns out swamp water is crystal clear, and the dress wasn’t ruined at all!). Kelly and Renee were total troopers, donning boots and following us right in. We were able to find a ghost orchid that wasn’t too far in, and so we GOT THE SHOT!
It was such a fun morning and a unique experience that I am so happy to have captured forever!”
